If you are a Nick Drake fan, the last place you probably expected to see a cover of Pink Moon would be on a collection of songs for kids. If you are unfamiliar with Nick Drake, I urge you to discover his music!

So, let me explain how Pink Moon ended up on this album...

Sadly, Nick Drake passed away in November of 1974, three months after I was born. I didn't discover his music until my mid-twenties, but his songwriting certainly shaped the honesty I attempt to put in each of my own songs.

During a busy week of recording, I was taking a break to shovel some fresh snow and listening to a playlist of my favourite songs. Pink Moon came on as a raven began to chat with me.

I began to think about the joy Nick's music has brought to my life, how glad I was that I was introduced to his music, but how I wished I had discovered it sooner. Could I bring his beautiful music to a new generation of music fans?

After heading inside and tuning my guitar, I quickly realized that I could actually play Pink Moon (in a slightly simpler way than Nick does on his album). The guitar track you hear on the album was the second take, recorded about 5 minutes after I learned the song. The vocals were done immediately after in one take. Capturing the beauty of the piano cadence took a few tries, but I got there...

A beautiful soul, and a wonderful songwriter, thank you Nick for sharing your music with the world during the time you were with us.
