about

For those of you that don't know, I grew up on a farm. It was a lot of hard work and I couldn't wait to move to the city as a grown up and pursue my music career.

However, looking back and realizing how hard my dad worked every day, and the care he took to look after his land and the animals, I know that it definitely helped create a strong work ethic in me and taught me a lot about life.

In the Summer of 2021, I came out of "farmer retirement" to help a friend on his farm; making hay and driving tractors. It is still hard work, but I found I could appreciate it more now as an adult.

As I started writing songs on my new ukulele, I found a different style of song emerging in my songwriting. I decided I wanted to write a song about a tractor. Tractors are fun, right?

So I called my friend to ask if any of his tractors had nicknames - one was called "Big Bertha" (and she is big!!).

In a matter of about 10 minutes, The Tractor Song was born and my real / imaginary adventures with Big Bertha were written and recorded for the album.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Big Bertha was a tractor
I used to look after
We’d ride through the fields every day
Up at the break of dawn
She liked to sing me songs
The horses watched us making the hay
The horses watched us making the hay

Her lights were so bright
We’d drive till late at night
She liked to snack on crackers and tea
Driving all the ups and downs
She never ever went to town
The country life was the life for her and me
Said the country life was the life for her and me

We’d plow those fields in the fall
So next summer’s oats and barley would grow tall
We’d work from morning until night
Making sure everything was done just right

Big Bertha was a tractor
I used to look after
We’d ride through the fields every day
Up at the break of dawn
She liked to sing me songs
The horses watched us making the hay
The horses watched us making the hay

We’d plow those fields in the fall
So next summer’s oats and barley would grow tall
We’d work from morning until night
Making sure everything was done just right

Oh we’d plow those fields in the fall
So next summer’s oats and barley would grow tall
We’d work from morning until night
Making sure everything was done just right
